Position InformationJob Title Project Assistant for CultureContract Type Special Service Agreement for 9 months (extendable)Contract Period 1 October 2010-30 June 2011Unit Culture UnitDuty Station UNESCO Office BeijingLevel L5-1 equivalentClosing Date 23 August 2010Terms of ReferenceUnder the authority of the Director of UNESCO Beijing Office and under the guidance and direct supervision of the Chief of Culture Unit, UNESCO Beijing Office, the Subscriber will undertake the assignments as listed below: Serve as project assistant to the Chief of Culture Unit of Beijing Office for the two UNESCO/Mercedes-Benz funded projects on World Heritage Sites in China, in particular the project on Post Earthquake Assistance for affected World Heritage Sites in Sichuan (Phase II). Assist in the coordination and communication with project counterparts, Governmental partners, local partners, organizations related to these projects, donor, and with the UNESCO Headquarters; Assist in the preparation of relevant project documents including work plans, implementation status reports, achievement reports, correspondence with the donor and the project partners, as well as other project related documents; Assist in administrative work including drafting contracts, preparing payments, making budget revisions and other related work. Assist in organization of project training workshops, technical exchange meetings and other related events. Provide overall support to UNESCO Beijing Office Culture Unit: translate documents from English into Chinese and vice versa; assist in the Unit’s liaison function vis-à-vis Headquarters, Field Offices, UN Agencies, Governments, Institutions, NGOs and other partners; and provide assistance for meetings, conferences and workshops in which the Unit is involved. Undertake missions to project sites as deemed necessary. Carry out any other tasks that may be assigned by the Chief of the Culture Unit and the Director or the Officer in Charge in absence of the DirectorRecruitment QualificationsEducationUniversity degree preferably at the advanced level in Culture or World Heritage related fields.Experience At least three or more years of experience in project management preferably with UN or other international organizations. Language RequirementsChinese-mother tongue and excellent command of EnglishCompetencies Experience in project management, budget control, monitoring and evaluation Good organizational skills and time management Ability to meet deadlines and willingness to take additional responsibilities Good computer and IT skills Strong communication skills Friendliness, flexibility, team spirit and ability to work in a multi-cultural team environment and be an effective team player.
