on each side of the river 意为“在河的每一边”
on the other side of the river 意为“在河的另一边”
on either side of the river 意为“在河的哪一边都有”
在这个句子中，A跟C表达的意思是一样的，只不过each可以表达两者、包括两者以上的多者中的任一个，either只能用于两者中的任一。
