Dialogue on the Truth

Introduction:
Person a wants to know what is the absolute truth, and thinks there is no absolute truth. Person b thinks we can use reasoning and logic to find the absolute truth. Person c thinks practice is the sole criterion to test truth, and people can use their sense to know the absolute truth.

a: We often hear people said "this is true, that is false". Sometimes people have different descriptions for one thing. I don’t know which one is right. But I want to know what is really true. Sometime I even think there are no true things. But I’m not talking about emotions. I mean the truth about objects.
b: That is a problem. Can you tell me how you know one thing is true or false?
a: I check the fact and my own experience to find truth. If someone told me, when an apple is ripe, it will fall down from the tree. I will first look for such apple. Sometimes we can see the truth, like we know what an apple is. But sometime we are not sure we know the truth. And I want to know what the absolute truth is.
c: I also think we can know what the truth is through the experience.
b: OK. Let us talk about this. You just mentioned the absolute truth. What is the absolute truth?
a.: That is the object itself.
c: I agree.
b: Through what can we know the object?
c: I said experience.
b: That is a big problem. First, let us check you just said. You mean practice is the sole criterion to test truth?
a: I’m not sure but assuming it is true.
b: If it is true, then my question is: how much practice do we need? If we happen to see a horse having three legs, can we then think all horses have only three legs?
a: We can’t. We need more horses. And we always think the common things are true.
b: What does “common” mean?
c: That means we can often tell that is true. Like many horses have four legs, so that horses have four legs is true.
b: Now I think I see what you mean. But we cannot prove truth with other things that not related the truth. We cannot say things true cause that they used to be true or most people said they were true. We want to find the absolute truth.
c: I agree. We need to rely on the practice.
b: But that is a problem. Get back to the example of the apple, we see a ripe apple falls down from the tree. That is based on our sense, and this type of things happen all the time. We will say all ripe apples will fall down from trees. That is based on the reasoning. We use reasoning to think whether things are true or false. You can see different horses, black, white, and even tree-leg ones. But we know those all the horses, that is reasoning. We use the reasoning, not practice or sense, to find the truth.
