总体句意：他总是有办法拿一个故事，文学人物，或思想来吊我们的胃口，直到我们很好奇，一心想继续听他说下去。

he had a way, 他有一个办法，过去式，a way 是“一个办法”，譬如： do you have any ways to solve this problem? dangling before us译成中文就是“吊胃口”，但是直译就是“在我们面前摇晃着（某物）”因为dangling一词就是拿着一个东西摇摇晃晃，像在动物园里面用食物引诱动物一样。before us 就是在我们面前。part of a story, 故事的一部分， literary -- 文学中的，character -- 人物， idea -- 思想，思念。 until -- 直到， curious -- 好奇, eager for more --- 想要（听）更多。
