在古英语中这个词是 come hither， hither则是原始印欧语中的*hidrê，意思是" to here"。而here在古英语中是hēr，这个词的意思是“ at this place”，它的原始印欧语词是*ḱe+*-r，也就是this+location。到了现代英语中基本上here已经将hither的词义完全吸纳了，也就是说come here = come hither = come to here

here 是副词，修饰动词come的，类似用法还有go home, go there 都不要to的。但是后面接的是名词就要用上表“目的”的介词to 了，如：come to beijing, go to school, go to the school.
